Not just a job, a PASSION!

There is something special about fresh starts, the very first day of a new school year or the first day at a brand new job, opening a brand new book, even the very first entry in a journal or calendar.

This year is almost over and a brand new one is about to begin.   I’m optimistic about what lies ahead.  I anticipate great things for this New Year, along with new visions and goals.   But I am too quickly reminded that I felt the very same last year.   And as always, I want this New Year to be better.  So how can I be sure that it is?

I believe the answer is found in the words of a sermon I heard years ago.  The theme:  “A vision without a task is fantasy, and a task without a vision is drudgery”.   If I want to make this year better I will need to do something about it.  I will need to put a plan in place with a realistic method of accomplishing what I want to see take place.  It will be too easy to allow this New Year to go by doing the same things, in the same way, and digging a ditch of routine.  I will need a real vision of what I would like to see happen – dream big!  If I aim low I will accomplish even less.

Our careers can be the same way.  We need to have a vision, a dream.  We need more than a job but a passion about what we do.   In our jobs, at our company, we need to ask ourselves “how can I make a difference”.  The work we do must have a signature of excellence, our own personal stamp on it.  Once we know what type of impact we want to have at our company, we will need to put together our directional map on the steps that will lead us to success toward the direction we want to go.

In the New Year I don’t want just a job, but a passion.
